ProLingua hears Electrolux's call: "Communication is Muy Importante"
Nashville, TN --July 28, 2005-"Siga trabajando bien"; Debe llegar a tiempo" (keep up the good work; you must be on time): These are just two of the Spanish phrases Electrolux supervisors in the Springfield, TN plant will learn in the workplace language portion of their upcoming Leadership Training Program.
Over 30% of Electrolux's 3200 person workforce at the Springfield plant is Hispanic. As the largest employer in Robertson County, Electrolux recognizes the integral role Hispanics play in the company's continued growth. However, language barriers are a major factor, particularly during their busy season when productivity and safety are crucial.
"By increasing our ability to communicate more effectively with our workforce, we expect to see an increasingly stronger safety record, a higher quality product, and an increase in production," emphasizes Angela Tavarez, Training Specialist at Electrolux. To meet their goals, they decided to partner with ProLingua, a five year old Nashville company that specializes in getting employers results with workplace-centered language training.
Electrolux's goals drive program design, according to Ann Gillespie of ProLingua. Her team is now in the process of developing the customized program. "Touring their facility and hearing from the production supervisors gives us first-hand knowledge of the language barriers. Our program will not only increase supervisors' ability to use Spanish on the job but will also measure how better communication improves productivity on the lines", Gillespie explains.
Tavarez chose ProLingua as a training partner for "The professional customization of their product for our company's needs, as well as a full value report after all of the training is complete to prove the impact and value of the training". More than 200 supervisors will participate in the Spanish training. ###
