The Client:
A painting company that
works with commercial
construction. Employees
with limited English comprise
the majority of their workforce. Those employees come from different countries, yet all speak Spanish.
The Challenge:
- Difficulty promoting good employees because of limited English skills
- Lack of communication between Hispanic employees and the foremen and customers on job sites
- Training sessions and materials not fully understood by Hispanic employees
The Solution:
We focused first on the need to augment safety training and materials to ensure Hispanic employees
understood and applied the knowledge consistently on the job site. Next, we worked with management to
identify employees with potential for advancement/promotion and worked toward that goal with training on
workplace English skills. We also provided training on communication skills in English for supervisors
and foremen to increase productivity by reducing training and instruction time.
